This month, our Social Skills program is dedicated to exploring the theme of “giving.” While the holidays are a wonderful and festive time of year, there is much more to appreciate than simply exchanging gifts. Our goal is to help clients understand the value of thinking about others and to develop strategies for coping when things don’t go as planned.
Below are a few activities we will be working on this month.
“Naughty or Nice” Sorting Activity
In this activity, clients will identify actions that demonstrate kindness and generosity, as well as actions that do not reflect these traits. This exercise encourages children to recognize and reflect on behaviors that contribute to a caring community.
Christmas Social Cards
To promote perspective-taking, clients will read social cards describing various scenarios. They will be asked to identify a problem within each scenario and use their problem-solving skills to suggest possible solutions. This activity helps children consider different viewpoints and think about how to resolve social challenges.
Coping Skills Stocking
Each client will have the opportunity to select coping skills they find effective for self-regulation when things do not go their way. Children can cut out preferred coping skills or write their own ideas, then add them to their personalized social skills stocking. This activity empowers clients to take ownership of their emotional well-being by choosing coping strategies that work best for them.
We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season filled with family, friends and great joy.
