Looking forward to the New Year and reflecting back on the memories we made in 2021. That will be the focus in January for our SSTP and Floortime programs.
Social Skills Training Program: Reflections in the New Year
Underlying Principle:
As one year ends and a new begins, we start to reflect on the memories made in the previous year and we set resolutions for 2022. A resolution is a promise to yourself that you will make a serious effort towards something that you would like to do. This month we will teach our kids to take the time to reflect on who they are and the decisions they have made. In addition, we want our kids to consider who they want to be in the new year and to set goals to help them improve upon their skills.
Targeted Skills: Self-Awareness, Perspective taking, Coping, Conversation
Examples of Activities:
New Year Reflections
This activity is a conversation game that consists of a wheel of New Years Reflection conversation questions. To create the spinner for the questions, you’ll need a paper clip and a pencil. Put the paper clip down with one end over the center dot. Put the pencil point down inside the paper clip and hold the pencil in place. Thump the paper clip. It will spin around and the pencil point and point to one question. Read the question aloud and take turns answering it.
All the Pieces of Me
This activity is designed help the individual become more aware of themselves by identifying the different characteristics that make them unique. Also, each person is expected to consider how others feel about them and to set personal social skills goals that aim to help others get to know them better.
Behavior Reflections
This activity is designed to help the individual learn about problem solving, coping and perspective taking by breaking down a previous situation and reflecting on their behavior.
Floortime Program
January’s theme will be “Looking Forward to 2022.” Our clients will be supported by the Floortime Specialists to prepare for the new year. There will be an opportunity for the clients at the center to participate in writing what they are looking forward to on our bulletin board. Conversations will be promoted to talk about past experiences, family traditions, or future plans for this year.
We wish everyone a wonderful 2022!
