Attitude of Gratitude

With Thanksgiving around the corner, fall naturally lends itself to the topic of gratitude. In our Social Skills program, we will be taking time to discuss what it means to be grateful and all the things around us that we are thankful for with our clients.  We will utilize social skills activities that encourage kids to regularly recognize and appreciate what they are grateful for to form healthy habits for the future!

Sample Activities:

Hidden Rules

  • Families give “thanks” in different ways. Some pray, hold hands, and some make a short speech.
  • When someone at the table gives “thanks,” it is expected that you listen quietly (some people close their eyes, bow their heads).
  • It is nice to help set the table and help clean up.

Helping the Host

When you have a dinner party at your house, assign the child a role for helping out. Have him/her set the table, greet the guest, or clean up before or after the party. Help him/her complete the task by providing prompts or supports and don’t forget to praise the child for helping out.

Manners

We will discuss what it means to have good manners and the importance of being polite. Practice using manners in various ways through interactive social skills activities.

These are just a few of the many activities we will focus on during the month of November. We wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!
