The theme this month in our Social Skills Training Program is Friendship Skills.
Underlying Principle:
Teach the child the importance of being friendly, kind and empathetic so that he or she may give others good thoughts.
Targeted Skills: Friendship skills, Initiations, Conversation Skills, Perspective Taking, Positive Thinking
A Few Examples of Activities:
Friendly Greeting
Practice greeting others with a warm smile, a friendly head nod, or a verbal “hi.” If the client is not comfortable with this, we will model these behaviors while he or she observes.
Valentine’s Day Project
Interview a friend and create a portrait of that friend. Include the things your friend likes.
Kindness Scavenger Hunt
The goal of this activity is to preform each task listed on the scavenger hunt handout. This activity is designed to promote kindness and expected behaviors.
