January is a time for fresh starts, goal-setting, and reflection. It provides an opportunity to look back on meaningful moments from the past year while also thinking about what we hope to accomplish in the year ahead. In our Social Skills Training Program (SSTP), January activities will focus on helping clients practice appropriate social responses, active listening, eye contact, turn-taking, and reciprocal conversation through engaging, hands-on experiences.
This month, our SSTP team will work with clients using a variety of interactive activities, including:
Reflecting on the Past & Planning for the Future
Clients will have the opportunity to talk about experiences from the past year, share favorite memories, and practice expressing their thoughts and feelings in a group setting. We will also support clients in discussing goals and plans for the year ahead, encouraging thoughtful communication and respectful listening.
Sharing Something New
Clients will be invited to share something “new” with the group. This may be a physical item or a new skill, activity, or experience they’ve recently learned. This activity promotes confidence, perspective-taking, and reciprocal conversation while giving peers the opportunity to practice asking questions and responding appropriately.
Learning Fair Play
To support conflict-resolution skills, clients will learn simple and effective tools for resolving disagreements fairly. Strategies such as rock-paper-scissors, coin flips, or drawing straws will be introduced to help clients practice problem-solving, flexibility, and cooperation in a structured and supportive way.
As we welcome the new year, these activities give our clients fun and supportive ways to practice social skills. Through sharing and problem-solving together, they continue building confidence and meaningful connections as the year begins.
We wish everyone a wonderful 2026!
