Our Social Skills Training Program is highlighting the new year with the theme of Reflect and Grow.
Underlying Principle:
As the new year begins, we reflect on the previous year and use what we have learned to continue growing this year and set new goals. For this month, we will help our clients use a growth mindset to work towards their own goals. With a growth mindset, we embrace challenges, we learn from feedback, we give our best effort, and we grow from our hard work.
Targeted Skills: Conversation, Coping
A Few Examples of Activities:
2019 Conversation Jenga:
Group will play Jenga and each time they move a block, they will ask another player a question regarding the previous year, 2019. The player can come up with their questions or use the prewritten questions to help them.
Positive Thinking, Be Kind to Yourself:
We will discuss the emotions we may experience when we face challenges, such as feeling upset and defeated. We will explain how challenges can lead to negative emotions and that is okay. However, we now want to face those challenges by using our positive thinking. We will help our clients to choose positive words we can tell ourselves to grow and empower our mind to overcome the challenges.
Not Yet, But I will:
Everyone has their own set of struggles that they have improved on and those they are still working on. We will use a fun, designed form to help our clients assess where they currently are in their social abilities. Review how the growth mindset teaches us to take our own pace and find our own way of facing those challenges.
We wish everyone a wonderful new year. Stay tuned for our next theme of the month!
