Those early judgments can shape trust, influence social and career opportunities, and set the tone for future relationships. This September, SSTP will focus on helping clients build the skills they need to make a positive first impression and, when needed, begin rebuilding a reputation that may have been damaged.
Rebuilding trust takes time, patience, and consistent action. It begins with recognizing the behaviors that caused concern, taking responsibility for past mistakes, and making intentional choices that help others see positive change. Through this month’s theme, clients will learn practical strategies for presenting themselves well, strengthening relationships, and moving forward with confidence.

Kinds of Thoughts
When helping individuals learn how to make a positive impression, it is important to explore how other people form thoughts and opinions about us. This activity encourages clients to think intentionally about the impression they want to make. Using the provided worksheet, clients can write in each thought bubble the kinds of thoughts they hope others will have about them, along with specific steps they can take to help create those impressions.
Video Feedback
Video feedback is an evidence-based strategy for teaching social skills by recording real-world interactions or role-play scenarios and giving clients the opportunity to observe themselves in action. After viewing the recording, clients can reflect on the impression they made, identify strengths, and discuss specific ways to improve future interactions.
