Spooktober Monthly Theme

We’re getting into the Spooktober Spirit! Halloween may not be the same this year, but we can still find ways to enjoy the Halloween spirit! Though traditions may look different this year to keep everyone safe, there are still plenty of ways to have fun!

Here are a few tips to keep in mind this Halloween:

  • Wear a face mask. This Halloween it’s important to note a costume mask is not a substitute for a cloth/surgical face mask- wear your mask under or over your costume mask. Be sure to cover your nose and mouth.
  • If collecting treats, wipe them down or let them sit for a couple of days before opening.
  • Avoid crowded places and keep safe distances. Continue to wash your hands and or use hand sanitizer frequently.

For our Parents: here are a few articles to guide you through the holidays.

SAMPLE ACTIVITIES FROM OUR STAFF THIS MONTH

Tricking or Treating:

Though door to door tricking is not allowed, families can invent their own traditions to celebrate this year. For example, having a virtual costume or wall decorating contest with friends. Consider a spooky movie night or a Halloween Theme meal.  When people give out candy and treats, it’s important to show appreciation by thanking them and treating them with respect.

Frankie Says:

This game is for the younger clients and is a Halloween version of Simon Says.  This game is great to get us up and release energy. Reinforces listening and matching the group.

Draw a Spooky Night:

During this activity, clients will practice self-control as they have to close their eyes while drawing. The goal is to reinforce whole body listening. Our specialists will remind the kids that it’s just a fun activity and the drawing is not meant to be perfect. Share each other’s drawing and have a laugh seeing the end result.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt:

This is a fun virtual Halloween game for kids – create a Halloween-themed scavenger hunt. Parents can collaborate together and hide specific items around their respective homes to make it extra special, but if that’s not possible, we will keep it simple and write out a list of generic items for kids to find during their virtual Halloween party.

We have many more activities that we will be doing during October. It may be different this year, but it can still be great fun and very special. Have a very Happy Halloween!
