February is often a month where we focus on kindness and friendship as we celebrate Valentine’s Day. Our Social Skills and Floortime teams will feature activities that celebrate positive relationships. It is also a time to understand and celebrate Lunar New Year, which begins on February 17th.
Valentine’s Day: Fostering Kindness and Friendship
Valentine’s Day Situation Cards
Create and read each situation out loud and discuss what would be expected reactions. This will encourage the child to use their problem-solving skills to navigate each situation. They can also create their own scenarios.
Heart to Heart Conversations
We will explore having meaningful conversations with the child to understand how to be a good friend and what it means to have empathy and compassion towards others.
Heart Breathing
Trace a heart shape while doing deep breathing exercises for relaxation.
Lunar New Year Activities
Crafts for Lunar New Year
Make paper dragon puppets, red envelopes, or lanterns to engage creativity.
Social Stories for Lunar New Year
We will use stories to explain the traditions and meaning of the holiday.
We wish everyone a very Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Lunar New Year!
