The theme for May in our Social Skills program is Mother: Queen of Hearts.
Mother’s Day provides a great opportunity to practice social-emotional learning and communication skills through activities focused on gratitude, perspective-taking, and collaborative play. Mother’s Day is crucial for honoring the unconditional love given and sacrifices our mothers or caregivers make.
Here are two of the many activities we will be working on with clients:
Gratitude Coupon Books
Our clients will create coupons for helpful acts, like «one night helping with dinner» or «washing the dishes» which teaches consideration for others’ needs.
Mother’s Day Charades
This game encourages non-verbal communication and understanding social cues. Participants act out common things their moms do, like gardening or cooking, while others guess the activity.
Floortime Program
In celebration of all mothers, grandmothers, and other family members, clients will create personalized flower pot crafts during their sessions. Each craft can be customized to reflect the individual client’s preferences. This activity allows clients to apply social skills and other abilities they’ve learned, such as sharing, taking turns, making choices, and practicing patience.
We wish all mothers and mother-figures a wonderful day with family and friends!
