Kindness, Friendship and Spooky Fun

This October, our Social Skills program is pairing Halloween fun with practical opportunities to build connections. Through themed activities, clients will practice giving compliments, sharing, taking turns, joining conversations and being a good friend. Our El Monte office will also host a Halloween event on October 22nd. Visit our Events page for details.

Our Floortime team is joining the seasonal fun with Halloween-themed activities, trick-or-treating safety tips and a costume week at our San Gabriel center.

Here is a preview of several activities planned by our Social Skills team.

National New Friend Week
Skill focus: spooky introductions and making new friends. Clients will practice greeting others, introducing themselves and asking questions to keep a conversation going.

Trick-or-Treat Social Skills:
To earn a piece of pretend candy, clients will rehearse the steps of a friendly trick-or-treating exchange: knocking, greeting someone, saying “trick or treat,” thanking the person and saying goodbye.

Build a Monster Friendship Activity:
Each client will receive a monster body part and answer a friendship question before adding it to the group’s creation. Questions may include: What makes someone a good friend? How can you help a friend? How do you ask someone to play?

Share a Picture of Your Favorite Cat Week:
While sharing a favorite cat photo, clients will practice speaking clearly, making eye contact and adjusting their volume so everyone can hear. Their peers will build confidence by raising their hands and asking thoughtful, relevant questions about the photos.

We wish everyone a joyful October and a safe, spooktacular Halloween!
